\noutdoors in cold, wet or windy weather.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0Pay
\nattention to weather forecasts and wind chill readings. In very cold, windy
\nweather, exposed skin can develop frostbite in a matter of minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n<\/span><\/span>Dress in several
\nlayers of loose, warm clothing.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0Air trapped
\nbetween the layers of clothing acts as insulation against the cold. Wear
\nwindproof and waterproof outer garments to protect against wind, snow and rain.
\nChoose undergarments that wick moisture away from your skin. Change out of wet
\nclothing \u2014 particularly gloves, hats and socks \u2014 as soon as possible.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n<\/span><\/span>Wear a hat or headband
\nthat fully covers your ears.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0Heavy woolen or
\nwindproof materials make the best headwear for cold protection.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n<\/span><\/span>Wear mittens rather
\nthan gloves.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0Mittens provide better protection. Or
\ntry a thin pair of glove liners made of a wicking material (such as
\npolypropylene) under a pair of heavier gloves or mittens.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n<\/span><\/span>Wear socks and sock
\nliners that fit well, wick moisture and provide insulation.<\/span><\/b>You might also try hand and foot warmers. Be sure the foot
\nwarmers don't make your boots too tight, restricting blood flow.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n<\/span><\/span>Watch for signs of
\nfrostbite.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0Early signs of frostbite include red or
\npale skin, prickling, and numbness. Seek warm shelter if you notice signs of
\nfrostbite.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n<\/span><\/span>Plan to protect
\nyourself.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0When traveling in cold weather, carry
\nemergency supplies and warm clothing in case you become stranded. If you'll be
\nin remote territory, tell others your route and expected return date.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span>Eat well-balanced
\nmeals and stay hydrated.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0Doing this even
\nbefore you go out in the cold will help you stay warm.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jump Rope for Heart<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Your child has recently
\nbrought home a Jump Rope for Heart donation envelope. Each year our Elementary
\nSchool raises funds for the American Heart Association.\u00a0 The students will
\njump rope as part of their\u00a0Phy-Ed class. Any donations are due on February
\n16th and checks can be written out to the American Heart Association.\u00a0 If
\nyou have any questions regarding this, please contact Mr. Johnson
\ndirectly.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
