Attention all students. This month, many of you participated in activates
that supported Autism Awareness. The middle school really knows how to
come together as a community to support each other! A reminder that you
have until the end of the day on Thursday to get your Falcon Time door
decorated in ‘something blue’ to show your support. The winner of the door
decorating contest will be announced Friday morning. Also – our Annual
Autism Walk will be held this Friday. Please report to your Wednesday Falcon
Time on Friday. PLEASE stay with your Falcon Time class during that walk.
There will be a chance to enter a drawing for participating in the walk.
The winners will be announced in your 10th hour class and prizes will
be available for pick up Friday after the announcement through the
following week. If you have any questions, please ask any of your
teachers! Thank YOU for supporting Awareness this month!

*Silverware:* Spring cleaning or cleaning out someone’s house? Have old or
mismatched forks and spoons? Send them to school! We prefer to use the
“real stuff” instead of plastic for a better dining experience. We also
feel this will save the landfills from all the plastic, this in part of an
Earth Day recycling event. You can drop in the office of any of our
schools. Thank you!

*CHESS CLUB & SCRABBLE PLAY! *Open to everyone! Pick up your lunch at the
start of the lunch/recess period and come to the ACTION Room on *Friday,

SFMS will be celebrating Earth Day, April 22, with a waste free lunch. As
a middle school our goal will be to help reduce the amount of trash that
goes into the landfill, and even work on reducing the amount of food that
goes in the trash as well. This will be an entire school effort from the
kitchen staff, right to our students that we hope to continue after Earth
Day. Menu for that day is Corn Dogs, not preboated (count out 6), mashed
potatoes, gravy and carrots/ dip, watermelon/ mango and Dirt cake. There
will not be extra containers to put ketchup and dip in. Just place the
condiments on your tray with the food you’re using it on. Below are a few
ideas to help you pack your own waste free lunch.

*A Waste-Free Lunch*

*(REUSABLE)*

· sandwiches and other main dishes, fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, and
treats in a reusable lunch container

· cloth napkins

· stainless-steel forks and spoons

· reusable drink containers

· reusable lunchboxes

*From The Nurse:*

There are several things that contribute to choking. All of these things
can happen right in our lunch room.

1. Trying to swallow large pieces of poorly chewed food

2. Eating while talking excitedly or laughing

3. Eating too fast

4. Walking, playing or running with food our objects in the mouth

The universal sign of choking is to put both of your hands over your
throat. There are people in the lunch room who are trained to help you if
choking occurs. Someone who is coughing should continue to cough. If you
are choking and cannot talk and cannot cough give the universal choking
sign. Help will be on the way.
