*7th Grade Basketball is Home at the Middle School*

*8th Grade Basketball is at Manitowoc Wilson, dismiss at 2:40 bus departs

Students and their families are invited to participate in the Strengthening
Families Program for ages 10-14 through UW-Sheboygan and Mental Health
America. The Strengthening Families Program helps develop healthy family
relationships between children (aged 10-14) and their parents/guardians. The
Spring 2016 session will run every *Thursday* from *J*anuary 28 to
March 10*, 5:30pm
to 8:00pm* with dinner provided. The flyer and registration form are
available in the office. Child care for younger kids will be provided!

*Attention 5th Graders:*

The concert is Monday, December 21st at noon in the MS auditorium. The
concert attire is to dress up nice (no holes please!). All 5th graders will
come to the *band room* after lunch at 11:35 to get in concert order. Don’t
forget to smile and have fun! ~Ms. Wasmer

This is a reminder that physical aggressive behaviors on the playground are
inappropriate behaviors; therefore games like rugby and tackle football
should be avoided and not played before/after school or during recess.

Any student that still has a Lion King Script please return it before

Spirit Wear has arrived!!! Please come to the MS office to pick up. Thank
you for all your support!

*Lost & Found:*

The school lost and found is over-flowing; please if you are missing
anything feel free to come look in the lost and found. All items will be
washed and donated by Dec. 18th if not picked up.

Mrs. Charbonneau will be offering Clubs during the Month of December during
recesses. Please come down and get a pass if you are thinking about coming
in for recess to participate in our music clubs. Thanks!

*ACTION ROOM HAPPENINGS!*

*DECK THE HALLS…*Come to the ACTION Room during *recess* on Mon. 12/14
and Tues. 12/15 to help create a “bright” and festive string of holiday
“lights” which will “deck the halls” and add holiday cheer to our school.

*MILWAUKEE BALLET NUTCRACKER FIELD TRIP…*

Participating students will report to the auditorium, WITH COATS at 9:15AM
on Thursday, December 17th for a departure from school at 9:30AM sharp! We
will travel by bus from the middle school to downtown Milwaukee. We will
return to the middle school at approximately 2:45PM, at which time the
students will report to their scheduled class period. Students are to *pack
a bag lunch and beverage LABELED with their name* for this field trip, as
we will be eating in the Marcus lunchroom immediately after the
performance, before returning to school. See Mrs. Fiorini or Mrs.
Charbonneau with questions.

*NUTCRACKER INTRO 7 TRIVIA! *Students attending the Milwaukee Ballet
Nutcracker trip on 12/17 are invited to come to the ACTION Room during the
lunch/recess period on Weds. 12/16 for an introduction to the story of the
Nutcracker. We’ll introduce the characters, setting, and special effects of
MB’s story line In addition, we’ll cover ballet vocabulary, as well as
ballet attendance etiquette. *Participation on Weds. will prepare you* for
our follow-up Friday, 12/18 activity. Nutcracker participants are invited
to are invited to come to the ACTION Room during the lunch/recess period to
play a quick game of* Nutcracker Trivia,* based on the details of the MB’s
performance, for a chance to win prizes.

*HOLIDAY POETRY CONTEST! *Open to students in grades 5 through 8! You have
the opportunity to share your creative writing skills and be recognized for
your writing talents! Write a poem in the *style of your choosing*, which
focuses on the holiday or winter season. Poems will be judged based on
their originality, creativity, and artistic quality. Qualifying poems will
be entered in the *Creative Communications Poetry Contest *for a chance to
become a “published poet.” If interested, PICK UP contest guidelines on
the ACTION Room bulletin board ASAP. *Entry deadline is Friday, December
18th. See Mrs. Fiorini with questions.*

*TALENT FEST 2016!*

SFMS students have the opportunity to participate in the annual Talent
Fest, to be held on Friday, January 15th, at 6:30PM in the auditorium.
Interested students should pick up information from the ACTION Room
bulletin board, or see Mrs. Charbonneau or Mrs. Fiorini with questions.

* SCRIPPS NATIONAL SPELLING BEE! * The first classroom rounds of our annual
spelling bee will take place in all Literacy and Integrated LA classrooms
between December 14th and 21st. Students can prepare for the bee by picking
up a study list either from Literacy and Integrated LA teachers or from the
ACTION Room bulletin board. Students can also visit the SCRIPPS website

Facilities Advisory Committee now forming, seeking volunteers!

The School District of Sheboygan Falls is seeking district residents to
volunteer for a Facilities Advisory Committee (FAC). The role of the
committee is to provide meaningful input to the Sheboygan Falls Board of
Education as the Board analyzes potential solutions for the Sheboygan Falls
Middle School. The committee will also provide specific input on the
district-wide, long-range capital replacement priorities. It is anticipated
that the committee will meet no more than six (6) times between January and
April 2016.

Committee membership: The Board is seeking a broad-based group that
represents a cross-section of the community. Committee members are asked to
commit to participating in all meetings. Please contact Jean Born, District

committee.

Meeting schedule: Dates: January 25, February 8, February 29, March 14, March

The Board of Education and the committee will meet on April 18, 2016 to
discuss the input gathered by the FAC.

*The ugly sweater contest *is back! On Tuesday, December 22, wear the
ugliest sweater you have for a chance to win a fun prize. Sponsored by
Student Council.

*Girls Basketball: *you can sign up in the office at any time. The first
practice is going to be Monday, January 4th . The parent meeting is also
that day in the MS gym at 4:45pm. Practice will be 3:30-4:45. Please make
sure that all paperwork and fees are in before the first practice or you
will have to watch.

*Attention students, staff & parents:* Beginning In early January, Mr. U
will begin offering several small groups for students in grades 6-8 with a
focus on soft skills. Soft skills are personal attributes that enable
someone to interact effectively and harmoniously with other people. The
following four soft skills will be included in my series of groups: 1)
communication, 2) enthusiasm & attitude, 3) teamwork and 4) problem solving
& critical thinking. Students may sign-up for one or more of the soft
skill groups. Small groups will meet four times – two times per week
during lunch and recess for two weeks. Specific dates and times will be
determined after group numbers are established. If you are interested in
joining a small group, please stop in the office and pick-up an
informational sheet & permission slip.

Have you weighed your back pack lately? It should be no more than 10% of
your body weight! Heavy back packs can lead to muscle strain and neck,
shoulder, or back pain. To minimize pain and injury you should:

· Carry only what you need

· Purchase book bags with waist belts or even better get one with
wheels

· Always use both straps to more evenly distribute the weight

· Weigh your back pack and figure out the percentage
