(unless it is a larger school organized ensemble), which can be either a

*Health Tip*

*5 Healthy Eating Tips for the Holidays*

1) Holiday-Proof Your Plan:
-Eat close to your usual times to keep your blood sugar steady.

-If you have a sweet treat, cut back on the carbs (like
potatoes and bread) during the meal

-Don’t skip meals to save up for a feast. Keep your blood
sugar in control.

2) Outsmart the Buffet:

-Have a small plate of food and then move away from the table

-Start with vegetables to take the edge off your appetite

-Eat slowly. It takes 20 minutes for your brain to realize you
are full

-Avoid or limit alcohol.

3) Fit in Favorites:

-NO food is on the naughty list. Slow down and savor each
bite. A small serving can help beat the craving.

4) Keep Moving:

-Being active is your secret holiday weapon. It can help make
up for the eating and reduce stress. Try taking a family walk after a
holiday meal.

5) Get your ZZZ’s:

-Sleep loss makes it harder to control your blood sugar, and
when you are sleep deprived you tend to eat more and prefer high-fat,
high-sugared food. Aim for 7-8 hours per night.

Thank you and have a safe and Happy Holiday Season from your nurses!

*Health Tip*

*Wear your seat belts!*

Wearing your seat belt is your best defense against injury or death in the
event of a crash. A seat belt increases your chances of surviving a crash
up to 60%. Far too many motorists refuse to buckle up.

*Facts:*

-3 out of 4 crashes happen within 25 miles from home.

-You can still be thrown from a vehicle even if you are riding in the back
seat. You can also injure others from the back seat if you are
unrestrained.

-Wear your seat belt even at night. There are more high risk drivers on the
roads at night such as impaired drivers and drowsy drivers, which can
increase your risk for a crash.

-National research shows you are 25 times more likely to be injured or even
killed if you are ejected or thrown from your vehicle.

FBLA will meet in Ms. Probst’s room (204) on Thursday at 3:15. Middle
School students are starting puberty and hormones are kicking in. At this
time, hygiene needs can change drastically. Please do not assume that your
child understands these changes and how to handle it.

Handwashing- Clean hands and fingernails are one of the best ways to
protect yourself and family from getting sick. Scrub for 20 seconds using
soap and water.

Showering/Bathing- Children need daily bathing/showering. They need to use
a mild soap and concentrate on their face, hands, feet, underarms, groin
and bottom. Faces should be washed twice daily.

Hair Washing- The frequency of hair washing depends on your child’s type of
hair and activity level. Children with oily hair may need to wash their
hair more frequently.

Underarm care- At this age, sweat glands become more active and may cause
an odor and more sweat. It is a good time to start thinking about using a
deodorant/antiperspirant.

Oral Hygiene- Brush teeth at least twice daily (and floss, too). This will
prevent tooth decay and bad breath.

Changing Clothes- Have your child wear a new set of clothing daily
(especially socks and underwear). This is an important part of hygiene.

Always remember your child’s own doctor is a great resource and you can
address any further questions.

*“A” Day*

Sheboygan Falls Middle School students will have the opportunity to
participate in the annual *Talent Fest on Friday, January 12th, 2018, at
6:30PM in the middle school auditorium.* Students interested in
participating in the Talent Fest should begin to think about what type of
performance they wish to display. Students may perform in only one act
(unless it is a larger school organized ensemble), which can be either a
solo or group performance. Types of performances presented in the past
include singing, dancing, musical presentations, short skits, juggling, or
any act that displays a student’s talent. Now is the time to determine if
you wish to participate, in what way, and with whom. Performances will be
limited to 2 minutes. Students who elect to sing must be prepared to do so
without singing over the voice on a cd. Singers should include the name of
song they will perform on the permission slip and Mrs. Charbonneau will
provide a cd of the music for you to practice with. Parents, please assist
your child in assuring that the performance, music and lyrics, and costumes
are appropriate for our middle school audience. A printed copy of the
lyrics to music to be played or sung must be brought to the first rehearsal.

Students wishing to participate must be willing to thoroughly prepare and
practice at home. Participants *must attend either* of the scheduled
rehearsal dates, as indicated below. Acts must be well prepared, polished,
and ready to perform at the two rehearsals. The rehearsal dates are;

• *Monday, January 8th from 3:15-4:30PM*

*• Thursday, January 11th from 3:15-4:30PM*

The program begins at 6:30 PM in the auditorium, and will end at
approximately 8:00PM. Students should arrive at the auditorium at least 20
minutes prior to show time. The students must bring/wear their costume and
any props needed, unless they have elected to leave these items with
director after their final rehearsal date. Students must be seated in the
back of the auditorium, in show order, as predetermined by director.

*Students wishing to participate can pick up the forms outside Mrs.
Charbonneau’s room and return them to her no later than Jan. 2. Thanks!*

GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYERS: The start of your season is less than a month
away! Please sign up in the office ASAP and make sure you have all of the
necessary paperwork taken care of before the season starts on January 2nd.

Message from the Crossing Guard: For safety concerns could all students
please stay on the same side as the school when crossing by Blessed
Trinity. It is too hard when there are kids trying to cross on both sides
of the street when crossing Giddings Street. Thank you Box Tops Contest
Reminder: The contest ends Wednesday December 6th at the end of the day.
All box tops should be labeled with the Wednesday Falcon time teacher and
put into the box located in the office. The winner of the popcorn party
will be held before Christmas break. FBLA will meet in Ms. Probst’s room
(204) on Thursday at 3:15. Middle School students are starting puberty
and hormones are kicking in. At this time, hygiene needs can change
drastically. Please do not assume that your child understands these
changes and how to handle it.
