It’s time for Makerspace! If you like crafts, projects, working with your
hands, and simple circuits join us for Makerspace! We will meet in Mrs.
Cotter’s room on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s (with the occasional Monday, we
will send home a schedule) right after school until 4:15. Our first meeting
is Thursday, February 2nd, and we go until Tuesday, March 21.If you are
interested in joining, we will need to know! Use this link

Student Council: February is almost here and that means Valentine’s Day!
Student Council is once again selling “candygrams.” Students may purchase
Valentines at their lunch next week Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
(January 31, February 1, and February 2) for $0.75 each. Students fill out
the Valentines and return them to Student Council. Student Council will
put a BIG 1 ounce sucker on them and deliver them to the recipient on
Valentine’s Day.

and celebrates diversity in culture and ethnicity.
Next meeting after school on Monday, January 30th from 3:15-4:30 in Mrs.
Kaiser’s Room (226). We will be finalizing our February-Black History
Month Activities and Posters.

Business Expo: It is that time of year again! The 7th grade needs your help
with supplies for the Business Expo. Please check the document to see what
needs we have and bring them to Mrs. Harms’s classroom. Remember- nothing
should be bought, only things that are recycled. Thank you in advance.

MUSICAL: Stage Crew Needed: If you are interested in being stage crew for
our musical in March, performances are March 16th, 17th and 18th. Please
complete this FORM by Friday, February 10th. The selected crew will be
posted on Monday, February 13th. Depending on the amount of students
interested, we might not be able to accept all students. For any questions,
please email Mrs. Stowers at [email protected].

Trap: registration starts Wednesday February 1st at 12:00 p.m. Trap is open
to students 6th grade through 12th grade. For returning students/athletes
you can register through the Wisconsin High School State Clay Target
League, any new students please have your parents contact me, Daniel
Lensink via email [email protected].

Middle School Families: Does your family enjoy getting crafty? Looking for
a fun experience to do with your child? The SFMS PTA is hosting an art
party on Tuesday, February 21st.We are excited to partner with Mrs.
Fischer, our middle school art teacher, to offer a parent (or other adult
family member) and student art night fundraiser for the MS PTA! Each
attendee will have the opportunity to paint a bowl or plate of your
choosing which will then be glazed for your student to pick up at a later
date.
Cost is $50 per twosome. Art supplies and light snacks/refreshments will
be provided! Each student must be accompanied by an adult attendee. Spaces

Hello 8th Grade Band Families,

This is a friendly reminder that the 8th grade band students will be
joining the HS band students for Pep Band on Tuesday, January 24th for the
Sheboygan Falls/Kiel Boys Basketball Game.

Pick up your Instrument,Lyre,and Pep Band Music before you leave the MS
on Tuesday, Jan 24th.

Admission to the game is FREE for band students!
–

Meet in the HS Band Room at 6:30 p.m.
–

Our performance will start immediately following the JV Boys Basketball
Game.
–

Pep Band students are excused immediately following the National Anthem
which could be as early as 7:15pm and as late as 7:30pm. The time is
dependent on the length of the JV game.

Diversity Club – A group that promotes tolerance for all groups of people
and celebrates diversity in culture and ethnicity.

We are looking for students that want to work together in making SFMS a
welcoming place for ALL. Members of the Diversity Club are open-minded and
ready to spread the message of inclusion and acceptance throughout the
school and community. If you want to meet new people and learn from each
other about what makes us all unique, while having fun, this may be the
place for you!

Some ideas for our group include:

• Creating posters & designing school-wide activities to promote diversity

• Planning a multicultural event for families

• Safe place for open discussions on diversity, discrimination, and
tolerance

We will be having our first meeting after school on Monday, January 16th
from 3:15-4:15 in Mrs. Kaiser’s Room (226). This day also happens to be
MLK jr. Day! Please complete the survey on Classlink if you are interested
in attending and being a member of this group.

Sheboygan Falls Middle School Spelling Bee: Maneuverable, blasphemous, and
chemotherapy! These words can be hard enough to say, let alone spell!
However, several of our students did just that during the Sheboygan Falls
Middle School Spelling Bee. In December, students participated in classroom
spelling bees, with the top 2 spellers from each classroom moving on to the
grade-level bees held after winter break. 3 finalists from each grade then
went on to compete in the middle school bee on January 6.

We want to give congratulations to our 2022-2023 SFMS Spelling Bee winner –
8th grader Siena M. Siena will move on to the regional spelling bee held
February 2. Thank you to everyone who participated in the classroom bees,
grade-level bees, and our grade-level finalists. From 5th grade, the
finalists were Laney J., Nick H., and Deena D. From 6th grade, the
finalists were Van M., Grant C., and Aaron B. From 7th grade, the
finalists were Damon K., Chase K., and Adriana M. From 8th grade, the
finalists were Siena M., Isaac H., and Logan G. Congratulations to all,
and good luck Siena!

Congratulations to eighth-graders Abigail B, Victoria B, Mollie S, and

Evelyn D, whose entry entitled Candy Cane Lane was a first-place winner

at the Great Gingerbread Village Contest at the Waelderhaus in Kohler!

The Kohler Foundation’s award is granted to the schools of winning teams to
help support participation in school enrichment opportunities for all
students.

A Note from the library:Thank you to everyone who participated in our
Secret Elf library book challenge. A special thanks to 5th and 6th grades
with the most participation and to all the staff who recommended great
books! 5 students guessed that the secret elf was Mr. Oetjen and got to

EDIBLE ENGINEERING & THE GREAT GINGERBREAD VILLAGE FESTIVAL!

Congratulations to all of our SFMS students who participated in this years’
Edible Engineering Contest! The following entries were submitted to the
Great Gingerbread Village Festival competition, held at the Waelderhaus in
Kohler!

This years’ entries Include: 6th-8th-grade category

Candy Cane Lane by Abigail B, Victoria B, Mollie S, Evelyn D

The festival event runs November 25th through December 30th. You can visit
the Waelderhaus Sundays through Fridays from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. and Saturdays
from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Musical performances every Saturday and Sunday at 2
p.m. Advance reservations are needed to view and vote for the gingerbread
structures. More information can be found on the Kohler Foundation Annual
Gingerbread Festival website.

EDIBLE ENGINEERING & THE GREAT GINGERBREAD VILLAGE FESTIVAL!

Congratulations to all of our SFMS students who participated in this years’
Edible Engineering Contest!

The following entries were submitted to the Great Gingerbread Village
Festival competition, held at the Waelderhaus in Kohler! This years’ entries

Include: 6th-8th-grade category

The festival event runs November 25th through December 30th. You can visit
the Waelderhaus Sundays through Fridays from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. and Saturdays
from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Musical performances every Saturday and Sunday at 2
p.m. Advance reservations are needed to view and vote for the gingerbread
structures. More information can be found on the Kohler Foundation Annual
Gingerbread Festival website.

fundraiser! The proceeds of this fundraiser will be used to fund future

EDIBLE ENGINEERING~ It’s time for our annual “Gingerbread House” building
contest! Gather a team of friends, plan your project, collect your edible
building materials and be part of this SFMS tradition! This project
encourages cooperative, creative, and artistic expression, and is a great
way to get into the holiday spirit! Students will form teams of 3 to 5 SFMS
friends, then together design and build their edible structure at home.
Team entries should then be brought to school the morning of Monday,
November 21st. The finished structures will be judged by our SFMS staff,
with the four most creative and well executed going on to compete in the Great
Gingerbread Village Holiday Festival at the Waelderhaus in Kohler. Winners
will be announced the afternoon of Monday, November 28th. All remaining
entries should be picked up and brought home at the end of the day on
Wednesday, November 30th. Any entries left behind will be disposed of,
following dismissal that
