The Middle School will help the High School celebrate Homecoming next week
\nby participating in the same Spirit Week. We encourage you to dress up
\neach day to the theme of “America.”<\/p>\n
Monday is DC Comics\/Superhero Day<\/p>\n
Tuesday is National Parks Day, so wear those flannel shirts and boots<\/p>\n
Wednesday is Beach Day, so go tropical<\/p>\n
Thursday is “New Jersey” Day, so wear the jersey of any athlete,
\nincluding yourself<\/p>\n
Friday is Hometown Day, so break out your best purple and gold<\/p>\n
Calling all students who would like to be part of the “Year of Last
\nFirsts”…….YOU are invited to apply to be part of SFMS YEARBOOK STAFF!
\nYEARBOOK STAFF meetings will be held AFTER school from 3:15 to 4:15 on the
\nsecond and fourth Mondays of the month beginning OCT. 10th (the opposite
\nweeks of Student Council). Applications are available in the office. They
\nare due Thursday, Sept. 28th to the “Yearbook Application” box in the
\noffice. Staff members will be announced the first week of October.<\/p>\n

On Monday October 9 th the 7th Grade will be attending a Chamber Theatre
\nProduction Performance in Oshkosh. The bus will be leaving at 8:45 and
\nreturning approximately 2:30.<\/p>\n
We did a prize drawing this morning and we have 3 winners for our “Arts in
\nEducation Week” giveaway! Students entered yesterday via email.<\/p>\n
They are: Natalie G (5th grade) painting kit, Jase B (5th grade) drawing
\nkit and Alyssa L (7th grade) gift card to JoAnn!!<\/p>\n
Stop in the Art Room to get your prize. Congrats!!<\/p>\n
Jazz Ensemble will be meeting on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 7:00
\nAM starting
\non Thursday, September 14th.<\/p>\n
6th graders who signed up for the Art Enrichment field trip this Friday,
\nSept 15. You may be excused to eat lunch around 10:50 on Friday. Meet in
\nthe Art Room at 11:10. We will take attendance, board bus, and leave! We
\nwill return to school around 1:45. Remember to discuss missed class work
\nwith your teacher. We still could use 1 or 2 parent chaperones; contact
\nMrs. Fischer for details.<\/p>\n
The following fifth graders are invited to a special “Pizza Lunch
\nw\/Principal Markofski” on Friday, Sept. 15th at 11am for accepting the
\nSummer *Dreambox Learning* Math Challenge: Jeanelle C., Nevaeh R., Ben K.,
\nCami J., and Shelby H. Congratulations!!!<\/p>\n
In honor of National Arts in Education Week, here are some fun facts of the
\nday! Did you know that in a recent survey, 72% of business leaders said
\nthat CREATIVITY was a skill that they were looking for with potential
\nemployees?! Innovation, creative problem-solving, and thinking outside
\nthe box are all part of creativity that we use in art classes. Music
\neducation prepares students to learn. Music education readies students for
\nlearning by helping to develop their basic mental skills and capacities.
\nMusic instruction impacts learning by enhancing fine motor skills,
\npreparing the brain for achievement, fostering superior working memory, and
\ncultivating better thinking skills.<\/p>\n
Student Council is looking for members for the 2017-2018 school year. Are
\nyou outgoing, care about your school, and are a leader? Then Student
\nCouncil is the place for you. Applications to join Student Council will be
\navailable on Tuesday in your Falcon Time classroom. They will also be
\navailable on the Student Council bulletin board located across from the
\nLibrary. Please return applications to Mrs. Powers in room 206 by Monday,
\nSeptember 18. Meetings are on the first and third Mondays of the month
\nbeginning Monday, October 2.<\/p>\n
Show choir for the 2017-2018 school year is starting again Friday,
\nSeptember 15th at 7:15 am in Mrs. Charbonneau’s room – 119. It is open to
\nany girls in grades 6th-8th. Please remember if you would like to get

*First Lego League Robotics and Research team announcement*<\/p>\n
Does helping to find a solution to a real-world problem sound interesting?
\nWould you like to work with your friends and classmates to research, share
\nand present your solution to this problem? Does the idea of using Legos to
\nbuild and program a robot to move, grab, push, pull or carry things on a
\ngame board sounds like fun? If so, then *First Lego League Robotics and
\nResearch* team is for you!<\/p>\n
This year, there will be two teams, new faces to help coach and mentor the
\nteams, including a high school senior who was part of the RedRaider
\nRobotics team that competed in the FIRST Robotics world competition in St.
\nLouis last April!<\/p>\n
Please turn in your application to the office by the end of the day,
\nThursday, September 14th. The members of the teams will be announced on
\nMonday, September 18th. Good luck!<\/p>\n
*Health Tip*<\/p>\n
We all know that Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is
\nalso the meal that many students skip. Studies show that students
\nespecially teenagers who eat breakfast are more attentive in class, have
\nmore energy, and are less likely to be overweight than their peers who
\ndon’t eat breakfast. So, grab some cereal, yogurt, a piece of fruit,
\nprotein bar, or a peanut butter sandwich and have the best learning
\npossible this school year!<\/p>\n
