Help for the Homeless Drive

Sheboygan Falls
Elementary is a drop off site for the Help for the Homeless Hygeine Drive.
Please consider donating personal hygeine items like cleaning supplies,
diaper/baby care, bathroom tissue, feminine hygiene products, hair care,
deodorant, dental care, body lotion, laundry detergent, trash bags, paper
towels and soap. There will be a collection box in front of the office until
March 10th. 

Health Tips

It is estimated that 51
million school hours are lost each year due to oral health issues. Oral Health
concerns are the most common chronic disease in school aged children.
Discomfort and self consciousness caused by oral health disease interferes with
the students ability to learn. Everyone should see their dentist 1-2 times per
year. Please contact your nurses if you need help obtaining dental care. Did
you know that your students can have their teeth checked while here at school
through Lakeshore Dental. They are scheduled to visit our school district the
week of 2/25/19. Call your nurses for details!

CLOSING OF SCHOOLS DUE TO INCLEMENT
WEATHER

As winter approaches, it is again
time to make plans for possible school closings due to inclement weather.  The procedures that have been followed by the
School District of Sheboygan Falls over the past several years will be followed
again this year.

This means that any decision to
close schools for all or any portion of a school day will be made as early as
possible in order to afford parents the opportunity to make alternate child
care or transportation plans.  All
closing announcements or early dismissals will be made on the school web
page:  www.sheboyganfalls.k12.wi.us,
an automated school message, and on the following area radio

Frost Bite Prevention tips from your nurses!

·       
Limit time you're
outdoors in cold, wet or windy weather. Pay
attention to weather forecasts and wind chill readings. In very cold, windy
weather, exposed skin can develop frostbite in a matter of minutes.

·       
Dress in several
layers of loose, warm clothing. Air trapped
between the layers of clothing acts as insulation against the cold. Wear
windproof and waterproof outer garments to protect against wind, snow and rain.
Choose undergarments that wick moisture away from your skin. Change out of wet
clothing — particularly gloves, hats and socks — as soon as possible.

·       
Wear a hat or headband
that fully covers your ears. Heavy woolen or
windproof materials make the best headwear for cold protection.

·       
Wear mittens rather
than gloves. Mittens provide better protection. Or
try a thin pair of glove liners made of a wicking material (such as
polypropylene) under a pair of heavier gloves or mittens.

·       
Wear socks and sock
liners that fit well, wick moisture and provide insulation.You might also try hand and foot warmers. Be sure the foot
warmers don't make your boots too tight, restricting blood flow.

·       
Watch for signs of
frostbite. Early signs of frostbite include red or
pale skin, prickling, and numbness. Seek warm shelter if you notice signs of
frostbite.

·       
Plan to protect
yourself. When traveling in cold weather, carry
emergency supplies and warm clothing in case you become stranded. If you'll be
in remote territory, tell others your route and expected return date.

·       
Eat well-balanced
meals and stay hydrated. Doing this even
before you go out in the cold will help you stay warm.

·       
Keep moving. Exercise can get the blood flowing and help you stay warm.

Jump Rope for Heart

Your child has recently
brought home a Jump Rope for Heart donation envelope. Each year our Elementary
School raises funds for the American Heart Association.  The students will
jump rope as part of their Phy-Ed class. Any donations are due on February
16th and checks can be written out to the American Heart Association.  If
you have any questions regarding this, please contact Mr. Johnson
directly.

directly to help your students have a successful and enjoyable school
experience. The winners of this contest will receive a class pizza party! Each
grade level will have one winning class.

know:

bag or envelope

Write your student’s
name and teacher’s name on the envelope. 4K, please add whether you are AM or
PM

·        
Send them to school with
your student or drop them off in the Elementary School Office

Welcome back Falcon
Families! We hope that you had a wonderful break, full of friends and family.
We want to extend our best wishes for the New Year and remind you to “Once a
week, take a peek.” Sometimes together time over the break may include sharing
annoying critters, a.k.a. lice. It is common and is easier to treat when found
earlier. Please read our lice prevention tips and feel free to contact us if
you have any questions or concerns.

Food allergies are a
growing food safety and public health concern that affect an estimated 4%–6% of
children in the United States. There is no cure for food allergies and
reactions can be life threatening. However, since it is not always easy or
possible to avoid certain foods, we have a trained medical response team in
each building to respond and take action. Early and quick recognition and
treatment can prevent serious health problems or death.

Kwik Trip Milk Moola Collection Contest

Falcon Families of SFES
is collecting Milk Moola milk caps and bag tops. Our current contest will run
through May of 2019 with winners announced in June.

The student/staff member
with the most tops turned in overall will win a king sized candy bar of their
choice, and their parent (or the staff member) will win a Kwik Trip gas card
(we know who’s really doing all the work)!

Our goal is to collect
1000 caps, however, if we can collect double that there will be a prize for
second place as well! With nearly 700 students in our school, 2000 caps should
be easy! I know you guys are drinking your milk, it does a body good.

Don’t forget to write
your student’s name on the bag so we know who sent them in!

CLOSING OF SCHOOLS DUE TO INCLEMENT
WEATHER

As winter approaches, it is again
time to make plans for possible school closings due to inclement weather.  The procedures that have been followed by the
School District of Sheboygan Falls over the past several years will be followed
again this year.

This means that any decision to
close schools for all or any portion of a school day will be made as early as
possible in order to afford parents the opportunity to make alternate child
care or transportation plans.  All
closing announcements or early dismissals will be made on the school web
page:  www.sheboyganfalls.k12.wi.us,
an automated school message, and on the following area radio

want to bring in these infections.

they are dirty and before eating.

Do not cough or sneeze
into your hands.

4.   
Never touch your T
zone. This is the eyes, nose, or mouth to prevent infections from entering the
human body.
