SFES Communicator – September 2016
September, 2016
We’re off to a great start to the school year.  Be sure to ask your son/daughter about our launch!  The first 4-6 weeks of school, we spend time launching procedures by modeling, practicing, and building stamina.  Examples include launching academic work, like readers/writers workshop or math centers, and regular procedures like efficiently getting ready for lunch.  Taking this time to teach and practice helps students gain confidence and independence in their jobs at school.  It supports each student on their learning path!
Sincerely,

Starting early with Literacy

District partners with Memorial Library to promote 1,000 Books Program
Launched by the Sheboygan Falls Memorial Library, 1000 Books Before Kindergarten is part of a national initiative designed to foster and strengthen per-literacy skills in young children. Although children generally learn to read after they start kindergarten, being exposed to books and especially having their parents or other adults read to them helps get them ready to read on their own.

Launching everywhere!

PLAYGROUND
We’re working hard on “above the line” behavior at recess time.
HALLWAY
We’re working hard on “zero noise” voices while in the halls.

CLASSROOM
We’re working hard at being good group workers who use stamina to stay focused on the learning task.

REFERENDUM INFORMATION – NOVEMBER 8 BALLOT
The proposal
Build a new, 125,000 square foot, 550-student, grade 5-8 middle school on district-owned property, east of the elementary school, with flexible learning spaces and classrooms providing for technology integration, collaboration for small and large groups, and adaptable spaces for a variety of educational opportunities. The plan includes a controlled, main entrance/office area for safety and a two-court gym and cafeteria/commons with a performance stage between them which will be accessible from either area.  The plan will also be ADA compliant, address on-site traffic, and provide separate bus and car drop-off areas for student safety.
