SFES Communicator – October 2017
October, 2017
Greetings!
Each year our school counseling department brings awareness to National Bully Prevention Month in October. This year, awareness was brought to the attention to SFES in a variety of ways. Staff and students throughout the district were encouraged to wear black each Wednesday of the month. SFES families received a letter home about “What bullying is and is not” (please see link below). Mrs. Humski (grades 4K-2 School Counselor) and Ms. Stanke (grades 3-5 School Counselor) incorporated bullying lessons into their weekly CAPSS classes and made weekly announcements related to bully prevention skills. Finally, SFES students created a school wide mural encouraging and reminding each other to do something kind and to brighten up someone’s day. Staff and students wore bright colors the last Friday of October to remind each other of this positive message!
Sincerely,

Lynn Bub
Elementary Principal

Fire Prevention Week

VISIT FROM SFFD
Members of the Sheboygan Falls Fire Department made a special visit to our students during fire prevention week. Students were given the opportunity to see inside of a fire truck, feel what it is like to spray water from the fire hose, learn about the special equipment and gear that firefighters wear, and review the importance of having a family plan in case of a fire emergency. Special thanks to the Sheboygan Falls Fire Department for providing this experience for our students.
Learning Experiences

FLEXIBLE SEATING
Students in Mr. Oetjen’s class are benefiting from flexible seating options courtesy of generous donors from DonorsChoose. This project was created to provide the students with flexible seating options to help fit their needs as learners.
LEARNING AND GROWING
Fourth graders in Mrs. Dippel’s and Mrs. Grunwald’s class explore
math and writing through collaborative work. During Math Daily 3 in Mrs. Grunwald’s class, students took on the role of teaching their peers. In Mrs. Dippel’s class, students
took a stroll around SFES to make
observations. They were on the look out to put the words went, said, and looked to bed with other word choices.

APPLE ORCHARD FUN
The kindergarten classes went to Dutter’s Gibbsville Orchard. They learned about how the apples grow, when they are picked and how they get the apples ready to sell. The children also got to pick their own apple and see the apple orchard while taking a wagon ride. They loved it!
A Note from Our Nurses

According to the CDC, 40% of Children aged 5-17 miss 3 or more school days in a year due to illness or injury. Overall, nearly 22 million school days are lost each year due to colds alone, and 38 million school days are lost due to the flu.

To Stay healthy, parents should:
-keep your children home if they are sick
-teach your children to how to properly wash their hands
-offer children a diet rich in fruits and vegtables
-avoid caffeine and sugary foods
