SFES Communicator: December 2017
December 2017
Greetings!
For SFES, December is about spreading kindness!
For the month of December, our theme has been the Spirit of Giving and Making a Difference. We can all have a spirit of giving by keeping kindness going. You might be asking, what does it mean to keep kindness going? When we say ‘keep kindness going’ we’re talking about starting a chain of kindness.
We have been encouraging our students to participate in acts of kindness throughout the month. We also sent out a few video links to staff and recommended each class do some kind of kindness project.
When we keep kindness going, we create a chain of kindness that can go on forever.
Have a spirit of giving kindness to others!
Sincerely,

Lynn Bub
Elementary Principal

Learning Experiences

TITLE NIGHT FUN
SFES welcomed families on December 7th for our Title 1 Winter Wonderland event. Students (and their families) participated in activities that support math and literacy instruction along with the option to make a fun winter craft. Check out the parent information we shared here:
MARIO CART FOR PE
How about playing Mario Kart without the actual gaming
system? Students in PE class
with Mr. Houwers have been
moving and learning through
the adaption of a video game. Students work together as teams
to move around the track while avoiding obstacles such as banana peels and turtle shells.  They earn points for each lap completed which they can trade in for “SuperKarts.”

HOUR OF CODE
Fourth grade students in Ms. Sense’s class participated in the Hour of Code last week. Students completed coding activities online. For more information, please visit the Hour of Code Website.
A Note from Our Nurses

Wear your seat belts!
Wearing your seat belt is your best defense against injury or death in the event of a crash. A seat belt increases your chances of surviving a crash up to 60%. Far too many motorists refuse to buckle up.
Facts:
-3 out of 4 crashes happen within 25 miles from home.
-You can still be thrown from a vehicle even if you are riding in the back seat. You can also injure others from the back seat if you are unrestrained.
-Wear your seat belt even at night. There are more high risk drivers on the roads at night such as impaired drivers and drowsy drivers, which can increase your risk for a crash.
-National research shows you are 25 times more likely to be injured or even killed if you are ejected or thrown from your vehicle.
Please view the December Tidbit Times from the Sheboygan County Health Department for more information on winter weather safety.
