SFES Communicator – September 2017
September, 2017
Greetings!
ABC, Chika, Chika, Boom, Boom – Welcome back to school!
Our first couple weeks have been busy at SFES! Students and teachers have been connecting and jumping back into learning. Whether learning about expected behaviors, classroom routines or even new parking procedures, students, staff and families alike are ‘launching’ into another year of learning and growing at SFES.

Sincerely,

Lynn Bub
Elementary Principal

Launching with Expected Behaviors

ZERO VOICE LINES
The Kindergarten students practiced using level zero voices indicating they are ready to enter the building after recess.
EXPECTED AND UNEXPECTED

Ms. Johnson tours her first grade students on the first day of school to remind them of expected hallway behaviors and how to find the office if they need assistance during the day. All SFES students reviewed expected behaviors for the hallway, playground, cafeteria, and bus. Many thanks for our school counselors, Mrs. Humski and Ms. Stanke for preparing these lessons for our students.

A Note from Our Nurses

We all know that Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is also the meal that many students skip. Studies show that students especially teenagers who eat breakfast are more attentive in class, have more energy, and are less likely to be overweight than their peers who don’t eat breakfast. So, grab some cereal, yogurt, a piece of fruit, protein bar, or a peanut butter sandwich and have the best learning possible this school year!

Learning Experiences

BUILDING STAMINA
The first few weeks of school are distinct from the rest of the school year. Teachers are working hard to build classroom routines, as well as building their students’ stamina.
As students get back into the routine of school, they should be able to have increased stamina toward working independently in reading, math, and classroom center time.
BOOK-A-DAY CHALLENGE
Mrs. Bub reading to classes as part of Mrs. Bub and Mrs. Pound’s #classroombookaday challenge.  Every day this school year, Mrs. Bub, Mrs. Pound or a special guest, will read a book to one of the SFES classrooms.
IN MEMORY OF FORMER MUSIC TEACHER
Thanks to all who donated to the Kerrie Levenduski Memorial fund last school year.  Kerrie loved her smiley faces and had them all over her classroom.  We were able to purchase four of these ukuleles in her memory.  They will be available to students that want to practice, but can’t afford their own instrument.

Keeping Safety in Mind

NEW PROCEDURES FOR MORNING DROP OFF & AFTER-SCHOOL PICK UP

Many thanks to families for helping us with our two new procedures to help make our parking lots safe for students.  Modeling safe behavior in using the cross walk is much appreciated!
