Issue: #7 Nov/Dec 2015
A message from Mr. Luke Goral, High School Principal

The administration and staff of Sheboygan Falls High School are examining the academic performance Laude System. The purpose of the LaudeSystem is to recognize students for the rigor of their academic program as well as their success in that program. This system would replace our current system of Class Rank and GPA.

The Laude Philosophy:  Laude system allows for evaluation of a student’s academic performance independent from that of their peers. The Laude system is modeled after comparable systems at the college and university level. Additionally, students are assessed on their progress toward meeting pre-established standards, rewards them for taking rigorous courses, better prepares students for the ACT, reduces the stress and negative behaviors associated with class rank (cheating, stress, schedule manipulation, etc.), and may increase chances of admission to colleges and universities.

The Laude System will be presented to the school board at the school board meeting on 12/21/15. You are welcome to attend.

Culinary Event

The Sheboygan County Leadership Group recently cam to tour our Culinary
program. Ms. Diana Woodworth presented how the kitchen has evolved into looking more like a work place environment, how local foods are used, food preparation, using school-grown produce, and entrepreneurship.
Students prepared a lunch for them consisting of: pumpkin milkshakes, paninis, 3 types of soups, and apple and pumpkin bars. We used as much of what
FFA grows as we could and then used other local in season  items. Students were  at their stations and talked about who they are, where they are going and what they prepared.

Culinary Arts At Work!
Come check out this amazing gingerbread house created by Mrs. Meyer’s Culinary Arts II students. Vote daily for your favorite creation at the Gingerbread Festival held at the Waelderhaus in Kohler. Viewing is available November 27 – December 30. Hours are: Sunday – Friday 1:00 – 5:00 and Saturday 10:00 – 5:00.

Java Roost Gives Back
Falcon’s Roast Java Roost presented $100 to the Sharon Richardson Hospice for “pay it forward” month of October and $135 worth of groceries to the Falls Food pantry. Each student was given $15 to spend during a recent trip to Aldi’s. Students needed to use their estimating skills to insure they didn’t go over the amount.

School Board Seeks Community Input
The School District of Sheboygan Falls is seeking district residents to volunteer for a Facilities Advisory Committee (FAC). The committee will also provide specific input on the district-wide, long-range capital replacement priorities. It is anticipated that the committee will meet no more than six (6) times between January and April 2016.  Read more.
