Issue: #3 Spring 2015

A note from Ms. Markofski, Principal

Dear Families and Friends of Sheboygan Falls Middle School,

Signs of spring are all around us and we find ourselves facing the “final stretch” to the end of another school year.  If you are like the rest of us, you’re probably finding yourselves making the same statement over and over again; “I can’t believe how fast this school year has gone!”  As unbelievable as it may seem, we are heading into the final quarter of the 2014-2015 school year!

The students have spent this school year making new friends, broadening their points of view, and preparing for life outside of school.  While test scores and report cards are one measure of growth, they aren’t the only measure.  This year students have been involved in many different outreach activities, reemphasizing the importance of giving back to our community.  They have competed in academic, athletic, and fine arts competitions, developing collaborative skills that will benefit them in many different ways.

Enjoy the remainder of the year!  Please do not hesitate to contact me or the staff as needed.

Sincerely,

Meloney Markofski

SFMS Principal

News from 6th grade
Sixth grade is marching right along, and rather swiftly, too! We are already into 4th quarter, spring parent-teacher conferences have come and gone, and everyone is anxiously waiting for spring to make itself known. With the onset of spring come many annual activities that 6th graders have been enjoying throughout the years. Our most exciting activity will be our outdoor experience at the Sheboygan Marsh.

Project-Based Learning Experience in READ 180

The READ 180 eighth graders are currently involved in a project-based learning experience. After completing their “Creatures of the Deep” workshop, collaborative teams chose topics to extend their learning while focusing on a specific audience.

“NOTES” from Band and Chorus
Sixty-one SFMS musicians recently performed at the annual WSMA Solo and Ensemble Festival held Saturday, March 7, at Riverview MS in Plymouth.

Forty-three instrumental and vocal selections including solos, duets, larger like instrument ensembles, show choir and jazz ensemble performed for adjudication. Students earned thirty-six 1st place ratings and seven 2nd place ratings. Congratulations to all of our performers!

There are many more events and activities planned in the  months ahead for the music department.

About E-Cigarettes
E-cigarettes are being marketed as a safe alternative to smoking. But they’re not because E-cigarettes are still putting nicotine – a highly addictive drug – into the body. Learn more about E-cigarettes and ways to keep your kids from using them at:
