What is It? Bullying, Teasing, Conflict, or a Mean Moment?
It’s no fun to have someone be mean to you. It hurts. But what exactly is it when someone is mean to you? The following is what students at SFES learned in their CAPSS (Career, Academic, Personal, Social Skills) class about mean behaviors.
Teasing is when everyone is having fun, no one is getting hurt and everyone is participating equally (i.e. a group of friends decide to give everyone silly nicknames).
Conflict is when nobody is having fun. Both sides are mad at each other. There is a possible solution to the disagreement.
Mean Moment is when someone is being hurt on purpose. It is an isolated event and doesn’t happen regularly. This is bucket-dipping.
Bullying is when the meanness happens over and over (repeatedly) and on purpose. It is one sided.
