School Board Makes Decision on Snow Make-Up Days: 2013-2014 School Year

This winter season has certainly provided all of us with challenges. Currently, the School District has missed three school days as a result of inclement weather. This year’s calendar has one built-in weather make-up day on Friday, May 23, 2014. School will be in session on Friday, May 23, 2014. At the Board of Education meeting on Monday, February 24, 2014 the Board voted to forgive the additional two make-up days. Students will not be required to make-up the additional two days and the last day of school will remain Friday, June 6. The School District is still meeting the required days and hours mandated by the Department of Public Instruction. If you have any questions regarding this information please contact your child’s school office.

Sheboygan Falls Families:

Please accept our wishes for a happy and safe winter break.

As we approach 2014, the School District of Sheboygan Falls Board and administration are looking ahead to 2014-2015. At its December 16 meeting, the Sheboygan Falls Board of Education approved the District’s 2014-2015 school year calendar. While that seems a long way off, the Board and administration work 6 months in advance on the calendars to ensure the District has time to plan for educational needs and families have sufficient planning time for personal events. The 2014-2015 calendar is posted to the District’s website.

The 2014-2015 school year starts on September 2, 2014 and ends on June 5, 2015.

As you may be aware, this school year’s spring break is two days instead of the traditional 5-day break. This change was made for educational purposes and is a reflection on our commitment to providing the best educational environment for the students in our schools. After this change, several parents expressed disappointment in the decision. We listened to this feedback and made changes for 2014-2015 to address those concerns. The compromise solution adds another day to spring break to balance our goal of keeping most children in school while allowing some parents to take advantage of a short planned absence to spend family time together for the full week.

The Board and administration agree that the approved 2014-2015 school year calendar is a good compromise that balances educational and family needs. Please find the calendar and an explanation of how the decisions were made regarding this calendar using the links below.

Thank you,

Jean Born
