A Message from the Principals

A huge thank you to our families who found ways to engage with their child’s education this fall! Whether you talked about math at home after a unit communication, attended Title activities or parent conferences, volunteered to sort literacy materials, or just asked your child about their week, your engagement matters (to us AND especially to your child).

We have plenty of additional engagement opportunities coming up, including our wonderful community tradition of a Holiday Sing Along.  We will gather in the Middle School gymnasium this year to give more space to our families.  Remember to wear your PJs, bring a blanket, and your singing voice! Falcon Families PTO group will sell pizza, nachos and beverages (to be enjoyed in the commons area).  We hope to see you for this sing along / mini-performance on Tuesday, December 19th at 6:00 PM in the Middle School gym (more information below).

We have a few other school-wide student engagement activities for December (see our events section below) and hope you will continue to ask your child about what they are reading, seeing, hearing and participating in each day at school.  Happiest of Holidays to all of our families and our extended community. We appreciate you each and every day of the year!

Safety Update

In November we successfully we completed a fire drill.

We help students prepare for drills using this conversation SLIDE DECK. Students do a great job learning about where to go in an emergency and practicing making safe choices.

Wisconsin DPI School Report Card

We are so very proud of our students and staff on our continuing “Exceeds Expectations” designation on our Wisconsin DPI State Report Card.  This data comes from a variety of data pieces, such as attendance, behavior, and most importantly, academic achievement and growth.

These past couple of years have seen us adopting new curriculum materials and focusing on our Universal Instruction (instruction for ALL kids).  This focus has helped our students grow 20% in math over the past two years! We are excited to learn and grow in our literacy instruction, as well.  We are so grateful to our families for your support and enthusiasm for learning at home!

In Case of a School Cancellation …

As communicated earlier this month and as we get closer to potential inclement weather, we would like to reiterate our plan in case of a school cancellation. See HERE for details.

Holiday Sing Along

We are excited for our upcoming Holiday Sing Along! All students are invited to wear pajamas or Christmas attire and be ready to raise their voices together on Tuesday, December 19th at 6:00 in the Middle School gym. Families are invited to bring a blanket to spread out on the gym floor and snacks. Everyone will be sitting with their families while we all raise a joyful noise together. Students will also be invited up to sing a couple songs as a mini Christmas concert. We can’t wait to see you there!

NOTE: Falcon Families of SFES will be providing pizza, nachos, soda, and water for purchase. Please bring cash! Food will be sold and enjoyed in the cafeteria.

Falcon Families News and A BIG Thank You

Special Thank You to Falcon Families (which includes YOU!)

Recently, Falcon Families donated a large amount of Scholastic Dollars to our classroom engagement libraries.  “An engagement library, what’s that?,” you ask.  Engagement libraries are classroom libraries curated to motivate our students to read for pleasure, creating stronger foundation for reading through exposure, vocabulary, and just enjoyment for reading.  Many of our classroom libraries have dated books that teachers have collected over the years.

While ALL books have a place, there is nothing like a new book from a contemporary children’s author to excite our budding readers.  Examples include Gerald and Piggy, Pigeon, Cool Beans books, Pete the Cat, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and more!  A HUGE thank you to Falcon Families for this donation toward building stronger and more motivated readers in our school.

If YOU made a purchase at the Book Fair, then thanks to YOU, as well! Every purchase you make helps Falcon Families build Scholastic Dollars, used for projects like the classroom engagement libraries, weekly readers (which many students and families love), and fulfilling teacher wish lists for their classroom.  Thank you!  You matter!

ES Life Lately

A Message from the Nurses

Cold and flu season is here once again. Here are a few friendly reminders of ways to stay healthy and protect yourself and others from getting sick.

  • If you and/or your child is sick, especially with a fever, stay home to avoid putting others at risk.
  • Remind kids to cover coughs and sneezes and avoid touching their eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread easily this way.
  • Wash your hands often!  Washing with soap and water removes germs, including respiratory viruses, from your hands. Hand sanitizers are also effective for reducing the spread of illness.
  • If you or your family members have symptoms of COVID, you can obtain free test kits available at many pharmacies.

Wishing you a safe and healthy holiday season!

Nurse Amber and Nurse Deanna
