A Message from the Principals

This time of year goes by so quickly, it is a good reminder to slow down and share appreciation for all of the wonderful things that are taking place on a daily basis at the Middle School!  We hope you have been able to hear from your students all of the engaging activities that have taken place.  Follow our social media pages as well to see first hand the teaching and learning that is taking place.

We appreciate family connections, and we are always looking to improve our engagement with our families.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please to not hesitate to reach out to the main office.

Ryan Zak, SFMS Principal

The Middle School took advantage of the warm weather in the middle of November and completed a fire drill. Students have done a great job this year at following expectations and taking all of our drills seriously.

Counselor’s Corner

A lot has been happening through our School Counseling Programming during the months of October and November! Mrs. Renzelmann and Mrs. Lorge have been dropping into the classrooms to do their monthly School Counseling lessons with students. Academic Career Planning has kicked off full force for ALL students, and Social Emotional Learning has been highlighted throughout the past several months as well. In Case of a School Cancellation …

Messages from the Nurses

According to the CDC, E-cigarettes are the most commonly used tobacco product among U.S. middle and high school students.

  • In 2022, about 1 in 10 or 2.55 million U.S. middle and high school students used e-cigarettes at least once in the past 30 days, including 3.3% of middle school students and 14.1% of high school students.

Disposable e-cigarettes are the most commonly used device type among U.S. middle and high school students who vape. Vaping can have health risks for youth. Most vapes have nicotine in them, which is highly addictive. Nicotine use in adolescence:

  • Can harm brain development, which continues until about age 25.
  • Can impact attention, learning, mood, and impulse control.
  • May increase risk for future addiction to other drugs.

Nurse Amber and Nurse Deanna both frequently see several kids who make themselves ill via vaping, and some who also become addicted. It is important for you to talk about this topic at home with your children!

Cold and flu season is here once again. Here are a few friendly reminders of ways to stay healthy and protect yourself and others from getting sick.

  • If you and/or your child is sick, especially with a fever, stay home to avoid putting others at risk.
  • Remind kids to cover coughs and sneezes and avoid touching their eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread easily this way.
  • Wash your hands often!  Washing with soap and water removes germs, including respiratory viruses, from your hands. Hand sanitizers are also effective for reducing the spread of illness.
  • If you or your family members have symptoms of COVID, you can obtain free test kits available at many pharmacies.

Wishing you a safe and healthy holiday season!

Nurse Amber and Nurse Deanna
