In June of 2023, a group of teachers and staff met to discuss potential changes to the academic calendar, with a goal of maximizing student and teacher engagement in learning and instruction.
Identified Goals of the Committee:
- Reduce the number of instructional days in June
- Provide a consistent instructional schedule for students Monday – Friday
- Maximize professional development by dedicating a full day, instead of Wednesday afternoons
- Enhance student supervision / engagement in after-school activities
- Offer families the opportunity to use periodic, longer weekends / holidays for family vacations / appointments instead of instructional days
Important Proposed Changes:
- No early dismissal on Wednesdays
- 4K program will run Monday through Thursday
- More Fridays during the school year without students reporting; teacher professional development opportunities
